located : at the Grand Hyatt Hotel
Whether it be a trying or a decidedly more frantic Friday,
nothing beats a good hard martini at the Mezza9 Martini Bar.
Secluded far away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby
Orchard Road, once you climb up the magnificent teak staircase
of the Grand Hyatt lobby, make a hard left and keep going until
you find your perch. Gaze through the menu, grab some great rice
paper rolls to nibble, and relish the deluxe range of martinis
with everything from chrysanthemum to berry and back. It may be
difficult navigating your way down the stairs after you have
sampled a few of the different varieties, but hey, you haven't
even eaten dinner yet. |

located : at CHIJMES
In Singapore, it is customary to make a big deal out of eating,
whether you're at a hawker stall or dining in the fine style of
Shrooms, one of Singapore's most popular and attractive dining
spots. Set amongst the gardens of an ex-convent school, Shrooms
is a little bit of New York right in the heart of Singapore. The
new menu, masterfully put together by the world-renowned chef
Dietmar Sawyere, is a merging of the old and the new; an artful
play of flavours both familiar and foreign, but always with a
simple, delicious twist. Downstairs, the lobster bar serves a
mean lobster fried rice, all the while redefining the notion of
alfresco dining. Upstairs, after dinner, the bar gets a little
cosier, as people take to the dance floor. |

located : at UE Square, Mohamad Sultan
Road
When you've eaten your fill, head straight to Amoeba, a
sophisticated champagne bar for those in-the-know on the popular
Mohamad Sultan stretch. Throw on your latest (and tightest)
Gucci outfit, talk your way past the mammoth bouncers and take
up residency in one of the bar's red quilted velvet booths,
where champagne swilling all night long is the order of the day.
Sample its wonderful bellinis, hit the darkened dance floor for
a little one-on-one, or just mingle with the crowd of trendy
models and media-types and make a contact or twelve. |

Situated next to the soon-to-be-opened Buddha Bar, and just a
stone's throw away from Amoeba is Eastside. Unassuming and
smart, yet casual, this is a bar with a distinctly relaxed feel.
Sit inside and try your hand at a game of pool. Or take a plush
back seat and relax while talking to friends. Sit outside and be
a spectator, quietly watching the crowds on Mohamad Sultan mill
around the profusion of clubs and bars, taking in the breeze.

If you've any energy left, and the night is still young, take
solace amongst the smooth rhythms and golden light of Lush,
Singapore's latest designer hotspot. Painted a rich terracotta
and flooded with glistening luminosity, its high-ceilinged,
contemporary design makes it the perfect place to dance the
night away. If you're in a group, head upstairs and (if you're
lucky) take advantage of the comfy lounges and their great
vantage point on the balcony. Playing hip garage and house until
late (at least by Singapore standards, where no clubs can
continue after 3am), this is certainly one place to shake your
booty. |
