After idling away with books and magazines at Borders Bookstore, head for this swanky wine bar one floor above. Set within a wine shop at Wheelock Place, it sets you in a cosy mellow mood with its bold burgundy and mustard hues, drawn curtains and dim lighting. Sip Bordeaux, enjoy the conversation amidst the decor of handmade black candles, artefacts and paintings that are changed every two months. If you want to buy some wine, check out the witty labels on the bottles such as "My brother and I share the same father but different mother".

When you're down and out, what do you do? Brighten things up with exciting Mexican food that exudes all the moods of salsa rhythms, colourful bandanas and Latin beauties. This restaurant at Riverside Point doesn't just serve the usual Tex Mex stuff that is so ubiquitous around town, but inspired and original creations. Tequila Prawns, Beef Tenderloin with Mole Rojo and homemade tortillas with fresh salsa and sour cream, are some of the true blue Mexican inspirations you can find on the menu. And if you're a tequila fan, listen. You can choose some 100 different tequila concoctions from the bar. Doesn't all this just brighten up dinnertime?

Whether celebrities hold their private pink parties here or otherwise, this is a watering hole for the fashionable and nocturnally energetic with its weekly themed nights. There's Mile High Club for air crew; Ladies' Night, where ladies not only get free entry but free flow on champagne, strawberries and vodka. Sorry guys, extra make-up and silk stockings won't fool them. On weekends, there's extra to celebrate with Drinks Galore night - all drinks excluding bottles are two for the price of one. The night seems to last forever at this place where you might just spot a famous face sipping a martini at the furthest corner of the bar. Don't get his autograph, he should get yours. That's the kind of attitude to have here.

I like dropping by this bar when I feel like dressing down and being myself. It's where you can just kick off your shoes, relax and enjoy a drink amidst the cosy outdoor ambience. Chat the night away with friends, gaze at the stars, watch people stroll by, all just as casually dressed and at home in this carefree village. Quick bits such as pizza are served. Indulge in the large selection of beers and the two-for-one drinks during happy hours. You somehow feel you're on holiday here. And with the large number of expatriates sipping their brews and talking in all kinds of accents, you could very well be.
