located : at #01-01 Costa Sands Resort

Clubbing's gone coastal these days, and a must-see is night
scene newbie The Beach. Leave your high heels at home and make a
splash in your beachwear instead. With the sea in front of you,
and its very own pool, you might want to take a dip between
drinks. The beats at this laid-back joint go from Latino to
Caribbean, and they do food as well. Sounds good? You might even
want to give the city hotels a miss and get a room at the resort
instead - the bar does room service. The resort's baby pool
turns into a foam party some nights, so if you're looking for a
wet and wild time, this is it. |

Soulful stuff dominates at this medieval-decored R&B joint - on
any given day you'll get a quality mix of jazz, motown, hip-hop
and rap, courtesy of DJ Tiny T, so brace yourself for anything
from the Jackson 5 to Jay-Z. Barely a year old, Lox fills up on
the weekends with home boys and fly girls - local 20-somethings
who, strangely enough, think they're black. Baggy jeans, huge
Tees and a stock of phrases like, "Yo, whassup…" and you'll fit
right in. Vodka and bourbon flows free for the fairer sex on
Thursday, so its great if you're on a tight boozing budget. |

Road

This sophisticated champagne bar is the haunt of the pretty boys
and girls of fashion, media types and socialites who live to see
and be seen - its guest list reads like the Who's Who in
entertainment. Alternative beats thump through the speakers but
Amoeba-types don't do much beyond bop - sweat, it seems, is too
unglamorous. Party only starts fashionably late though - usually
past midnight. |

Just down the road from Amoeba is the Newsroom Bar, which evokes
a Zen-like ambience with its combination of colours, furniture
and even fountains and plants. Motown and soul rule, with names
like Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, James Brown and
Roberta Flack making a comeback. Top 40s find their place late
nights. The club's nicely sectionised too, so you can choose to
rub shoulders - and other body parts - on the dance floor, show
some muscles at the pool table or simply chill in its cigar
room. |

located : at the Marriott Hotel
Tel : (65) 6831 4656/7
A personal favourite is Bar None, buried in the basement of the
Marriott Hotel, which is a must if you like things live and
loud. It's home to Energy, one of the best local covers bands,
who do anything from Deep Purple to Matchbox 20 everyday except
Mondays. They do three sets and by the time they hit the third,
the place is packed to the brim - and that's on weekdays. It's
hot with the local and foreign professional types, so bring a
stack of name cards and prepare to mingle. |
