Description
There
is something for everyone at this year’s Theatre Fest. Organised and
presented by The Substation, Theatre Fest is a showcase of
experimental work in theatre and drama by local and foreign
performers and arts groups.
The
Glass Menagerie is a new Chinese adaptation of Tennessee William’s
classic play by journalist Lim Jen Erh. It is a memory performance,
with its action drawn from the memories of the narrator, Yaohua, who
is an aspiring poet who toils in a shoe warehouse to support his
mother and sister, Suhua. Using 'live' singing and a retrospective
radio program running in between scenes, the mood and reality is of
Singapore in the 1960s – a city with newly gained self-determination
that is faced with massive unemployment.
