Description
The
exhibition, Tear Up the Rule Books, features a selection of works
that highlight contemporary printmaking’s most innovative
collaborations. As recent as 50 years ago, printmaking was
considered a poor relation to painting and sculpture, often
misunderstood as merely a reproduction of an artist’s paintings. So,
what are prints? How were prints traditionally made? What are the
innovations? Why are prints now considered original works of art?
This
exhibition aims to answer all these questions and more. By
harnessing new technologies and discarding old rules, artists and
printers have pushed the boundaries of various print processes. Tear
Up the Rule Books’ presentation of exemplary collaborations of
radical experimentation by both pivotal artists and print workshops
will illustrate how these visionary partnerships have shaped
contemporary printmaking. These innovations have irreversibly
changed and permeated our perceptions of the print’s value and its
expansive possibilities as an art form.
